We began this venture to make an art of informing people.
We chose the name because it describes how we do that.
Today’s media platforms and the perpetual, free-flowing wellspring of content they deliver, increases competition for attention. For a message to get through it needs to be brief and entertaining as well as accurate.
Clarity and transparency are watchwords we live by. Helping people move beyond the bumper-sticker/meme mentality that’s come to define discourse in the digital age is the challenge. And we’re up for it.
It’s just the two of us. Yet, we consistently generate fresh creative under tight deadlines, and limited budgets, with an efficiency that would astound other agencies. Experience gives us an edge - we have it, and it matters.

Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) is a national organization headquartered in Washington, DC that works with utilities, municipalities, and private companies to promote smart electric practices. Much of their work involves sharing information about innovative systems and best practices within the industry.
Each year, they recognize the accomplishments of industry partners with the annual Power Player Awards. SEPA asked us to produce profile videos for the winners in 2017 and 2018. Each highlights the outstanding work of companies and municipalities across the country.
SEPA also asked us to produce videos for several case studies (Fremont, NB and Minster, OH) and the high-profile conference Solar Power International - check out the piece on Salvador Gómez-Colón in the collection at left.
We sourced or created most of the video elements for each project. In some cases, SEPA provided raw video footage and we developed a narrative. In every case, we handled 100% of the editing and created the soundtracks that accompany the videos.
If energy efficiency is the low-hanging fruit of environmental responsibility, then, please, lets eat more fruit. The Knoxville Extreme Energy Makeover (KEEM) was a TVA-funded program that provided energy efficiency upgrades for low-income homes in Knoxville, TN.
KEEM was a partnership between the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee (CAC), the City of Knoxville, the Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB), and the Alliance to Save Energy.
As the program was winding down, the Office of Sustainability for the City of Knoxville asked us to create a video overview of the project. We also produced several short videos for social media.
TenneSEIA (Tennessee Solar Energy Industries Association) is the state chapter for the national Solar Energy Industries Association. TenneSEIA’s mission is to make solar energy a mainstream energy source and realize the full potential of the solar industry in Tennessee.
We were asked to produce a series of promotional videos for the organization that feature notable solar projects across Tennessee. The majority of the footage for the project was supplied by the TenneSEIA membership. A number of scenes were pulled from our own footage shot at various solar installations in the state. We handled all the post-production editing and created the soundtrack for the series in-house.
The Legacy Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization working to preserve the extraordinary natural resources of East Tennessee - to expand parks, create trails, and increase access to rivers. The phrase, “leave East Tennessee better than we found it” isn’t just their motto, it’s what they do every day to ensure future generations enjoy the recreational and contemplative benefits provided by nature.
In 2015, they celebrated 10 years of commitment to that mission.
To help call attention to their accomplishments, we proposed a project that would place local musicians in a number of Legacy Parks locations performing an original song inspired by their surroundings. 10 songs, 10 spaces, 10 years - get it? The digital marketing firm Pyxl provided funding for the project. We shot the series over a period of two weeks in the middle of summer and edited the videos from start to finish.
Videos were also used by Visit Knoxville, and East Tennessee Public Television. Legacy Parks plans to use them again as a part of another campaign in 2018.
It remains one of our favorite projects to date. Music and nature, best combo since fish and chips.
This is one of those ideas that arrived during coffee and conversation. First off, we love where we live. Knoxville is a phenomenal community and we are fortunate to be here, now. And so are you. If you stop, and listen to what is happening around you - to what is really happening - absent the noise and digital distractions - you’ll get it.
This is what happens when you combine poetry and place, and hear found-sound as music.
We were thrilled to have this project included in one of our favorite events, Big Ears Festival, for the last two years as a kind of ‘welcome to Knoxville.’ We look forward to being involved in 2019.
walkwithme is an on-going project and we thank Visit Knoxville, the Central Business Improvement District, City of Knoxville, and other local businesses and individuals who continue to support this project. The number of places we have to explore and share are endless. Go there. We hope you lose yourself for a little while and remember some of your own favorite spaces.
LAET (Legal Aid of East Tennessee) For over 52 years, in 26 counties across East Tennessee, LAET has been providing civil legal representation to people who would otherwise have no one to help them secure their basic legal rights. The nonprofit serves approximately 8,000 individuals each year. They engage in Community Economic Development work with individuals and grass roots community organizations, and provide special programs for seniors and victims of domestic violence. They also fund and staff Pro Bono Projects that recruit and utilize volunteer attorneys to expand existing services. However, despite having been in continuous operation for many years, public awareness of the nonprofit was low.
LAET asked us to help increase the visibility and awareness of this amazing organization. We responded by developing a social media campaign: “Know us. Know our work.” that focussed on individuals - staff, attorneys and clients, whose interactions led to positive outcomes. We also created a micro-site to promote special events, share materials and receive donations.
It has been an honor to work with these ‘superheros.’
ICMA (International City/County Management Association is the world’s leading association of professional city and county managers who serve local governments. The US Department of Energy and the SunShot Solar Outreach Partnership provided a grant to conduct case studies on how local governments addressed key barriers to installing solar energy systems in their communities. These studies enabled other local governments to successfully replicate solar practices expanding the local adoption of solar energy.
We were responsible for 11 case studies including Reno, NV; Polk County, Florida; KY; Bristol, Franklin, TN; Asheville, NC; Solarize Asheville; Berea, KY; Bristol, TN; Franklin, TN; Asheville, NC; Solarize Asheville; Knoxville, TN; Nashville, TN; Cincinnati, OH.
In each market, we provided both written case studies and short videos that provided a high-level look at each project.
